John Chen (solo piano)
New Zealand pianist John Chen is a favourite of Tauranga Musica audiences, this being his sixth appearance for the Society.

John launched his career by winning the prestigious Sydney International Piano Competition in 2004. He returns to Tauranga to perform a passionate and virtuosic programme.

The first half consists of Handel's grand Suite No. 8 followed by Chopin's brooding and dramatic "Funeral March" Sonata. The concert finishes with Duka's expansive and triumphant piano sonata, one of the most technically and physically demanding works of the 20th century.
