Menagerie South (2015)
South Island musicians, Tessa Petersen and John van Buskirk are joined by NZ born Australian resident, clarinettist Mark Walton, to perform as Menagerie South. All players are professional musicians who are well known more particularly in NZ and Australia but have performed world-wide.Tessa Petersen studied at the University of Otago and led the NZ Youth Orchestra before continuing her studies in London at the Royal College of Music. She is married to John van Buskirk and they perform in duo as La Belle Alliance.
Mark Walton is a highly respected and popular figure in both Australia and NZ and is widely acknowledged as a virtuoso clarinet and saxophone performer, inspiring teacher and charismatic musician.
John van Buskirk, originally from New York studied at Eastman School of Music and Juilliard and has performed world-wide from New York to Budapest and London. Both Tessa and John are on the staff of the University of Otago.
The programme will play pieces by Lilburn, Sibelius, Christopher Marshall, Gade, Nielsen and Marc Eychenne.
