Early Music Ensemble Affetto (2013)
Early music ensemble Affetto was formed in 2010 to explore the lesser known chamber music of the Baroque and Renaissance periods. The members are all early music specialists, leaders in their respective fields and all playing authentic instruments.Peter Reid studied the cornetto and Baroque trumpet while at Trinity College of Music in London and plays with several other music groups in NZ and Australia.
Polly Sussex performs, teaches and researches Baroque cello and viola da gamba of the seventeenth and eighteen centuries.
Jayne Tankersley is one of NZ's most experienced singers of Baroque, Renaissance and Medieval music. She completed a Masters degree in Early Music vocal performance at the Longy School of Music and has sung widely in USA and NZ.
Rachael Griffiths-Hughes regularly performs on the harpsichord, is a church organist and Director of Music, choral conductor and lecturer at the University of Waikato.
Affetto's programme will be "Venus in Venice" - music from the Courts of 17th century Italy: from the muses that produced many impassioned songs to the young "bella donna" who thrilled listeners with compositions of their own devising.
Composers including Claudio Monteverdi, Barbara Strozzi, Francesca Caccini and Felice Sances will feature in this concert on authentic instruments.
