Niels Bijl (saxophone), Diedre Irons (piano)
Dutch saxophonist Niels Bijl performs as a chamber musician in many ensembles, and since 2000 he has been a member of the renowned Aurelia Saxophone Quartet. He regularly performs in projects with professional orchestras in The Netherlands, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Rotterdam Philharmonic. Recently he was invited to play in Sir Georg Solti's/Valery Gergiev's World Orchestra for Peace and has since become the orchestra's official saxophonist.

Experience the lush romanticism of Russian music, including Scriabin's shimmering Five Preludes Opus 16, and Glazunov's poignant Chant du Ménestral (minstrel's song). Ravel's famous Pavane pour une infante défunte is paired with Fauré's luscious Après un rêve. Other works by Schubert, Schumann, and Cuban jazz composer Paquito D'Rivera, are sure to delight.

Diedre Irons needs no introduction to New Zealand audiences. Diedre is one of our most revered pianists, and it is a rare treat to have her perform again on our regional concerts circuit. Niels described Diedre as his "accompanying soulmate" on his last visit to New Zealand.

The duo will perform pieces by Glazounov, Jamieson, Martin, Buis, Schumann, D'Riviera, Templeton, Singeleé, Fauré and Massenet.

Tickets are available from Baycourt / Ticketdirect, or at the door on the night (Adults $30; Under 19 $10). Dinner is available from Mills Reef before the concert.
